Travel Guide: Zürich

9 Things to do:

1. Visit the 2 of Zürich’s most famous historical landmarks: Grossmünster and Fraumünster, flanking both sides of the Limmat. Grossmünster Romanesque towers offer a great view over the city, and the church is also famed for its Christmas stained glass window. The 13th Century Fraumünster can boast a series of stunning windows designed by artist Marc Chagall. The best place to take a picture with the iconic landmarks is on the bridge close to the opera house.

2.Set your watch by the clock at St Peter’s church. The clock of the oldest parish church in Zürich has the largest face in Europe!

3.Stroll down Bahnhofstrasse which is known as one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world. Its lower half (starting from the main station) is filled with high street brands, while most of the luxury shops are situated at the upper end, close to Bürkliplatz and the lake.

4. Lunch at Café Sprüngli which still rules the roost with its sumptuous macaroons which they are called ‘Luxemburgerli’ and hot chocolate with whipped cream. Be sure to sit outside on Paradeplatz on a sunny day- great for people watching. The cafe is located at the epicentre of the Swiss banking world.

5. Have cheese fondue at Zunfthaus sur Zimmerleuten on Limmatquai. Other dishes that are recommended are Bratwurst Roesti, Geschnetzlets and the Toblerone-Mousse with fruits.

Travel Tip:

  1. The best time to visit Zürich is during Easter as there are not many people around, shops are closed but many restaurants are open. A great time to explore the city and take pictures.
  2. Make sure you have some Swiss Francs (CHF) with you.
